Bij het laatste Ifoam (Internationale Bio-landbouworganisatie)] congres, dat afgelopen september in Australië werd gehouden, is Italië als de volgende lokatie voor het congres in 2008 gekozen.
Italië werd voor Zuid-Korea met 140 tegen 72 stemmen gekozen. Daarom zullen er 4.000 experts, die 800 bio-organisaties vertegenwoordigen in 2008 naar het Italiaanse gebied Emilia Romagna komen.

'The Congress Declaration of The 15th Organic World Congress of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) calls upon governments worldwide to actively endorse and practically support organic agriculture. It also calls on individual governments to allocate budgetary funds for investment into organic agriculture, proportionate to the organic sector’s production in their countries, and to internalize social and environmental costs in the prices of agricultural products and remunerate organic farmers for ecosystem services they provide. De bij IFOAM aangesloten bio-organisaties certificeren, promoten, ontwikkelen en verkopen bio-producten in de hele wereld. Het Ifoam congres is nog nooit in Italië georganiseerd, hoewel er daar 50.000 Italiaanse bio-bedrijven zijn, met een totaal areaal van 1.200.000 hectare. Dit is Qua oppervlakte méér dan dat er in de VS aan oppervlakte biolandbouw is te vinden. Italie mag zodoende met recht een van de koplopers op het gebied van biolandbouw in de wereld worden genoemd.
